#rpgaday: Day Six
King Arthur Pendragon. Greg Stafford’s other masterpiece.
I own virtually everything published for it. I’ve pored over the rules and immersed myself in Arthuriana. But I’ve never played a lick of it. Some of that is down to finding players who want to commit to a game with a built-in generational aspect. Some of it is down to players who think they’ll be overwhelmed by the need for specialized knowledge. A lot of it is down to me fearing that I can’t do the subject matter justice. Maybe it’ll be my retirement game someday.

I get that same concern about doing a game justice, to the point that I don't run games. The last time I ran a campaign, it wasn't living up to what I had pictured in my head, so I let it fade away. And often when I read a new premise or book, my reaction is, "I could never do that well." Which is not a productive attitude at all.
ReplyDeleteNifty idea: Having a "retirement game."
ReplyDeleteAt my age, a retirement game is less of an abstract notion.
ReplyDeleteThis is on my list also. Sounds like you and I are in the same boat with Pendragon.
